We will not publish a carbon figure we cannot stand behind.

Micromobility has a reputation for arriving with impressive environmental claims and thin arithmetic underneath them. Scoteri has not operated a single day, so any number we printed here would be a projection wearing the clothes of a result.

What is actually true.

An electric scooter carrying one person a short distance uses far less energy and far less street than a car doing the same job. That is a matter of physics, not marketing, and it holds regardless of who is operating the fleet.

What is not automatic is whether a scooter service reduces anything overall. That depends on what the trip replaced. A ride that would have been a car journey is a clear gain. A ride that would have been a walk is not. The honest position is that the benefit is real but conditional, and the condition is something we will be able to measure once people are riding.

What actually determines the impact.

These are the things that decide whether a scooter fleet is genuinely lighter than what it replaced. They are all operational, and they are all within an operator’s control.

  • How long a vehicle lasts

Manufacturing dominates a scooter’s footprint. A vehicle that survives years rather than months is the single biggest lever there is, which makes maintenance an environmental decision, not just a cost one.

  • Repair over replacement

Serviceable vehicles with available spare parts, repaired rather than scrapped when something breaks.

  • How vehicles are collected

A fleet collected and redistributed by vans driving all night can undo the benefit of the rides themselves. Efficient routing matters more than it sounds like it should.

  • Battery handling

Charging practice affects battery life, and battery life affects both cost and waste. End-of-life batteries need proper disposal routes, not a store room.

  • What the trip replaced

The benefit comes from car trips that did not happen. Understanding that substitution honestly is the only way to claim anything credible.

  • Street space

A scooter occupies a fraction of the road and parking space of a car. In a city where parking is already contested, that is a benefit felt immediately, whatever the carbon arithmetic says.

What we commit to.

  • Measure before claiming

Publish impact figures only when they come from our own operating data, with the method stated.

  • Design operations around vehicle lifespan

Maintain and repair rather than run vehicles into the ground and replace them.

  • Responsible battery disposal

Establish proper disposal and recycling routes for batteries before we have a volume of them.

  • Show the working

When numbers do appear here, they will come with the assumptions behind them, so anyone can disagree with the method rather than take the total on trust.

A lighter option for the short trip.
